Managing Chronic Pain Without Heavy Medication

Key Signs It’s Time to Consult a Doctor

Self-management strategies are designed for diagnosed, ongoing chronic pain. It is absolutely essential to seek professional medical advice if you experience any new or changing symptoms. Do not try to self-diagnose. Contact your doctor or seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following:

  • Sudden, severe, or debilitating pain.
  • Pain that is accompanied by fever, chills, or unexplained weight loss.
  • Pain that comes with numbness, weakness, or tingling in your limbs.
  • Pain in your chest, or pain that radiates to your arm or jaw.
  • Pain that gets progressively worse over time instead of better.
  • Pain that prevents you from sleeping or performing essential daily activities like bathing or dressing.
  • Pain resulting from a recent fall or injury.

Your doctor is your partner in health. Always keep them informed about the strategies you are trying and how your symptoms are changing. Never stop or change a prescribed medication without their direct guidance.
